How I Help

The responsibility of a therapist is to stand in the gap of pain and trauma as an advocate to validate the patient’s feelings and experiences. My aim with every patient is to be their advocate – to stand with them and to help shed light on the stuck and hurt places from traumatic relationships and experiences.

Often, these traumatic experiences result in anxiety, depression, eating disorders and other post-traumatic stress symptoms. I work with patients to bring awareness to present day behaviors and harmful thought processes and related beliefs about themselves.

Who I Serve

Four Winds serves adult patients only (ages 18 and older) through tele-health sessions.

Though historically our counseling services have focused primarily on women, Four Winds does have male patients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, religious and spiritual abuse issues as well as eating disorders.

*Four Winds does not offer marital therapy services.

Meet Melissa

Melissa has been in private practice for 25 years. After graduate school and launching her career in Florida, her western roots and love of four differing seasons, the mountains and outdoor recreation pulled her back to the front range of Colorado over a decade ago.

The concept of Four Winds came through her roots in New Mexico where she lived alongside Native Americans and observed their holistic approach to healing and medicine. Melissa has a holistic and integrative approach to healing believing that we can take from both western and eastern medicine and practices, and many times, these approaches are a necessary supplement  to therapy. Melissa has a BA in both Psychology and Child Development and an MA in Counseling. Although she was religiously trained in her higher level degree, she no longer participates in organized religion, nor does she endorse religious practices and principles in her therapeutic sessions. She is licensed in both the State of Florida and the State of Colorado.
