“I thought my life’s point was to fix what was broken inside of me, not heal what had been damaged by abuse.”
– Melissa Hunt
Choosing a therapist that you feel can help you is critical to the therapeutic process. The first question to ask is “Does the therapist deal with the issues that I am seeking help for?” Other key questions include: “In the brief consultation did the therapist have a good understanding of what kind of help I was looking for? In the sessions, do I feel heard? Do I feel safe?” The counseling experience is not always comfortable, but the comfortability lies in the context of the relationship with the therapist as the process gets uncomfortable. The relationship is critical.
That answer lies in what the circumstances are in which you are entering the process in the first place. At Four Winds Counseling Services, there is never a time line put on the process. The process is both emphasized and honored, therefore the process defines the length of time.
